Letzen Freitag fand die erste startup Session im Rahmen unseres genobarcamps statt. Eines der teilnehmenden startups kommt ursprünglich aus Finnland und hat mich schon vor drei Jahren auf der finovate in London begeistert. Inzwischen ist das Unternehmen unter anderem auch in Österreich auf dem Markt und Hannes Aigner hat es auf dem barcamp angemessen präsentiert. Heute freue ich mich ein weiteres spannendes Finterview mit den Gründern von Holvi veröffentlichen zu können.
Who is Holvi? And what is your product?
Founded in 2011 in Helsinki, Finland, Holvi combines modern technology and user experience into banking. Holvi is a simple one-stop-shop for small businesses to collect income, manage expense and get an understandable real-time view of their company finances. New Holvi accounts can be opened in minutes online and Holvi customers don’t need a separate bank account. The company recently released Holvi Expenses iPhone app for managing expenses on the go. Holvi is regulated by the Finnish FSA.
Are there first succeces and who are the funders of Holvi?

- Johan Lorenzen is the CEO of Holvi. He has more than a decade of experience with high growth internet companies, both from the founder and investor side. Johan joined Holvi from the venture capital firm Sunstone, to change the future of banking first hand. Prior to that Johan also worked on both the technology and infrastructure side of traditional banking, as well as advising and investing in fintech companies.
- Tuomas Toivonen is the co-founder and CTO of Holvi. He has over fifteen years of experience as an entrepreneur and technologist bringing new products to market. He founded Fishpool, a consultancy building high volume billing and provisioning solutions to mobile operators worldwide.
Why did you built Holvi?
We built Holvi to solve the complex problem of managing finances in the modern world where people work together, sell online and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Holvi is a simple and efficient tool for managing any small company, event or project.
Disrupting or enabling banks?
Holvi is a payment institution authorised by the Financial Supervisory Authority (FSA) of Finland for operations across the EU under the Payment Service Directive. This means we are independent from existing banks. We have a licence to operate across Europe.
In what is Holvi better than banks?
Holvi removes traditional banking from your life and replaces it with something better. It’s a new type of current account designed initially for small businesses: the 40 million makers and doers in Europe. In short Holvi is everything you need to run a small business or a project.
Who are your investors?
Holvi is backed by angel investors with extensive background in financial services and technology entrepreneurship including Speedinvest, Seedcamp, the leading Pan-European early stage investor and accelerator, and Tekes, the Finnish agency for research and development.
